RICHMOND COUNTY – -Richmond County School’s students earned top finishes and statewide honors this spring in competitions ranging from academics and STEM to leadership, fine arts, and Career and Technical Education.
“It is always exciting to see our students recognized for their hard work and accomplishments,” said Superintendent Dr. Joe Ferrell. “We look forward to seeing students continue on to national competition this summer and represent their schools on a national stage.”
Beta Club
The National Beta Club is a student organization focused on academic achievement, leadership, character, and service, giving students opportunities to compete, lead, and showcase their talents in events at the state and national level.
This year’s North Carolina Beta Club State Convention was held virtually due to winter weather. Students placing in the top five earned the opportunity to travel to Nashville, Tennessee this summer for the National Beta Convention, where students from across the country will compete and participate in leadership activities and events.
Monroe Avenue Elementary School competed in the state competition and became the first elementary school in district history to earn placements with the opportunity to advance to the national level competition.
Richmond Senior High School student Sydney Barnes was also elected North Carolina Senior Beta Secretary, serving in a statewide student leadership role for the upcoming year.

SkillsUSA
Students from Richmond Senior High School competed at the North Carolina SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference in Greensboro in April. SkillsUSA gives students opportunities to develop leadership, technical, and workplace skills through Career and Technical Education competitions and events.
Richmond Senior High School’s American Spirit Team earned a state championship in a competition centered on leadership, community service, patriotism, and Career and Technical Education promotion throughout the school year.
The team will advance to the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference in Atlanta this June.
