HAMLET — A Hamlet man is facing an attempted murder charge following a shooting Thursday in the Dobbins Heights community.
Deputies responded May 7 to a report of a man suffering from gunshot wounds at 121 Sanford St. in Hamlet, according to a media release issued by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Emerson Quinn Quick Jr. contacted Richmond County Emergency Communications and reported gunshot wounds to his chest and leg. Quick was transported to FirstHealth Richmond by Hamlet Fire and Rescue for treatment.
Earlier Thursday, investigators were working at two locations in Hamlet after a midday shooting left a Dobbins Heights man critically injured. At the time, the victim’s identity was being withheld pending notification of family members.
Investigators identified William Pratt Jr., 31, also known as “Fox,” as the suspect in the shooting. Authorities said Pratt was later taken into custody without incident.
Pratt, of Corning Street in Hamlet, was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder. He was presented before a magistrate and booked in the Richmond County Jail without bond under the North Carolina Pretrial Integrity Act.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” read a media release.
