RICHMOND COUNTY — A Rockingham man is accused of multiple offenses, including burglary and firearm-related crimes, following an investigation by the Rockingham Police Department.
Kemonte Jermaine Cummings, 19, of Rockingham, was arrested May 2 after officers observed him attempting to open a vehicle door handle in the Pineridge Drive area. When officers approached, Cummings fled on foot before being apprehended after a brief pursuit, according to police.
Investigators allege Cummings is connected to multiple incidents, including a breaking and entering of a motor vehicle reported April 30 and a burglary reported May 1.
During the April 30 incident, Cummings entered a vehicle and stole a .380-caliber firearm, a laptop and other items before fleeing on foot.
In the May 1 incident, authorities said Cummings allegedly entered the home of a 77-year-old woman by climbing through a window. The resident attempted to intervene, but Cummings fled the residence on foot.
As part of the investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at a residence on Pineridge Drive, where the stolen firearm was recovered, according to police.
Cummings faces multiple charges and is being held in the Richmond County Jail without bond.
In a separate case, two Hamlet residents were arrested following a drug investigation conducted by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team.
Quarjuan “Quan” Gilchrist, 37, and Ciera Danielle Locklear, 35, were taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gilchrist is charged with five felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver fentanyl, 10 counts of sell or deliver fentanyl, one felony count of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance and six misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held in the Richmond County Jail without bond.
Locklear is charged with one felony count of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver fentanyl and one felony count of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for the sale of a controlled substance. She received a $5,000 secured bond and was later released.
