LUMBERTON – The Raiders Junior Varsity Softball team brought in a huge victory against the Lumberton Pirates on Monday, April 27, while the Varsity team was unable to continue the momentum and faced a tough loss on the same night.
The Junior Varsity Raiders came in with a 13-1 overall record, while the JV Pirates came in with a 0-8 overall record. At bat, several players dominated to help Richmond reach their ending score of 25-0. Freshman Haylee McCaskill would be the MVP of the game, with four hits, four runs, six RBIs and one HR. Freshman Makenzie Mabe had three runs, one hit and three RBIs. Sophomore Annabelle Millen had one run, one hit and three RBIs. The team had ten walks and stole nine bases. Freshman Grace Hill pitched the whole game, allowing no hits and no runs with one strikeout.
The Varsity Raiders were unable to continue the momentum, being defeated 13-0.
Richmond came in with an overall record of 7-12, while the Pirates came in with an overall record of 12-10. At the bat, Freshman Ava Clarke, Sophomore Lexi Smith and Sophomore Madison Hancock were the only players to have hits, the rest of the team going hitless. At the plate, MacKenzie Quick gave up eight runs in two innings. Hancock gave up five runs in two innings. In total, the team allowed 13 runs (only ten earned), two home runs, five walks and only had one strikeout.
The Raiders Softball teams will both compete against the Pinecrest Patriots on Thursday, April 30. The JV team will start the day at 4:30 p.m., with the Varsity team following at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots JV team is coming in with a 2-3 overall score and the Varsity team is coming in with a 8-10 overall score.
