ROCKINGHAM — A private school teacher in Richmond County faces multiple felony charges after authorities reported allegations involving a student.
According to an arrest warrant issued April 22 by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Amanda Faye Boulware, 40, of Rockingham, is charged with three felony counts of taking indecent liberties with a student.
The warrant states the alleged offense occurred Jan. 1 and involved a child under the age of 12. Boulware was employed as a teacher at Temple Christian School, and the child was a student at the same school.
Under North Carolina law, “If a defendant, who is a teacher, school administrator, student teacher, school safety officer, or coach, at any age, or who is other school personnel and is at least four years older than the victim, takes indecent liberties with a victim who is a student, at any time during or after the time the defendant and victim were present together in the same school but before the victim ceases to be a student, the defendant is guilty of a Class G felony, unless the conduct is covered under some other provision of law providing for greater punishment. A person is not guilty of taking indecent liberties with a student if the person is lawfully married to the student.”
The statute further states that consent is not a defense to the charge and defines indecent liberties as acts intended for sexual arousal or gratification involving a student.
Boulware was arrested April 23 and initially held without bond at the Richmond County Jail. Following her first court appearance the same day, a judge set a $7,000 secured bond, and she was released after posting bond.
As part of her release conditions, Boulware is prohibited from having contact with any children other than her own, from being within 100 yards of places where children gather, and from being on school property. She was also ordered to provide fingerprints and a DNA sample.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 30. Court records show Boulware has two prior speeding citations, one issued in Montgomery County in 2020 and another in Johnston County in 2016.
