ROCKINGHAM – The Junior Varsity and Varsity Raiders baseball teams performed a clean sweep on April 21, when they both defeated the visiting Overhills Jaguars.

JV started the big night for the team, coming out with a 17-2 win over the Jaguars. At the plate, Freshman Nathan Culbreth pitched the entire game. He had zero errors and struck out seven, making sure the Jaguars had few opportunities of scoring. Culbreth also helped when at the bat, getting three runs and three RBIs.

Freshman Colton Nelson scored two runs and three RBIs. Freshman Samuel O’Neal also scored four runs and three RBIs. The Jaguars allowed 17 runs and eight walks, with six errors. This gave the Raiders room to score 17 runs on only eight hits. The win brought the Raiders to a 10-4 overall score.

The Varsity Raiders finished the Jaguars with a victory over them on Tuesday, as well.

At the plate, Senior Caden Nolan pitched most of the game, not allowing the Jaguars to get any offense in. In the six innings that he pitched, he had 10 strikeouts, allowed zero earned runs, and only two hits.

Senior Colton Brown would pitch one inning, where he allowed zero runs. This defense allowed the Raiders to keep the Jaguars at bay. At bat, Nolan would hit a homerun, proving why he is a valuable player to the Raider team. Freshman Noah Stubbs went 3-for-3, with three hits, two RBIs, and a double. Sophomore Drew McCaskill had two hits, one RBI, and stole a base. Lastly, senior Jacob Veach had two hits, one run scored, and one stolen base.

This solid offense would bring the Raiders to a 9-1 victory.

Both of Richmond’s baseball teams will look to continue their momentum when they step onto Patriot soil to take on Pinecrest on April 28. The JV team will start the day at 4:30 p.m., with the Varsity team following at 7 p.m.

The Pinecrest JV team is coming in with a 13-3-1 record and the Varsity team is coming in with a 16-5 overall record. The Raiders JV team is coming in with a 10-4 overall record and the Varsity team is coming in with a 16-4 record.
