ROCKINGHAM – The Lady Raiders soccer teams faced tough conference losses to the Jack Britt Buccaneers on April 21. The JV Raiders would lose with a score of 2-1 and the Varsity Raiders would lose with a score of 3-0.
The JV Raiders were looking to ride the wave of momentum they had from their 3-1 victory over Pine Forest on Friday. However, the ladies could not find a good strategy to defend against the Bucs, ultimately leading to their loss. Freshman Yicel Lopez would score a goal for the Raiders, but it would prove not to be enough as the Buccaneers won by one goal. This brought the JV team to an overall record of 6-4-1, as well as a conference record of 3-4.
The Varsity Raiders would try to turn the tides into their favor, but they also could not overcome Jack Britt.
They were also coming in on a wave of momentum, having beaten the Forest Hills Yellow Jackets the night before with a score of 8-0. However, the Buccaneers would have the Raiders’ card, scoring a 3-0 victory. Junior Kenley Smith would try to stop the Buccaneers as goalie, but it just proved to be a bad night for the Raiders. This brought the Varsity team to an overall record of 4-10-2 and a conference record of 0-6-1.
Both teams will look to make a comeback when they face the Overhills Jaguars on April 28. The JV Raiders will start the day at 5 p.m., with the Varsity team following at 7 p.m. These games will also be conference games, but conquering the Jaguars will not be an easy task. The JV Jaguars are coming in with an overall record of 8-3-2 and a conference record of 1-0, while the Varsity Jaguars are coming in with an overall record of 5-5-4 and a conference record of 2-3-2.
