Raider Softball Dominates Overhills Jaguars

ROCKINGHAM – The Raiders Junior Varsity and Varsity Softball teams dominated the Hoke County Bucks on Friday, April 17, with the JV team coming out with a 20-3 win and the Varsity team coming out with a 3-2 win.

The Junior Varsity Raiders came in with a 10-1 overall record, while the JV Bucks came in with a 4-4-1 overall record. At the bat, several players dominated to help Richmond reach their ending score of 20-3. Freshman Kaydence Cooke had three runs, one hit, three RBIs, and a triple. Freshman Haylee McCaskill had two hits, three RBIS, and a triple. The team had nine walks and stole six bases. Freshman Grace Hill pitched the whole game, only allowing one hit and one earned run, with four strikeouts.

The Varsity Raiders continued the momentum when they also defeated the Bucks. Richmond came in with an overall record of 5-11, while the Bucks came in with an overall record of 13-3. At the bat, Senior Hayden Robinson went 2-for-3, with one run, two RBIs, and a homerun. Sophomore Sydney Barnes went 2-for-3, as well, with one run. Overall, the team had six hits, three runs, two doubles, and one homerun. At the plate, Sophomore Madison Hancock pitched seven innings, with six hits, two runs (only one of which was earned), zero walks, and six strikeouts. The combination of efficient hitting and strong defensive pitching allowed Richmond to take the win, 3-2.

The Raiders Softball teams will both compete against the Overhills Jaguars on Friday, April 24. The JV team will start the day at 4:30 pm, with the Varsity team following at 6:30 pm. The Jaguars JV team is coming in with a 3-7 overall score and the Varsity team is coming in with a 9-7 overall score. The Raiders JV team is coming in with a 11-1 overall score and the Varsity team is coming in with a 6-11 overall score.
