Hamlet Recreation Center hosts indoor soccer match

HAMLET – Young athletes laced up their tennis shoes at Memorial Park Gymnasium on Friday, April 10, as the Hamlet Parks and Recreation indoor soccer league brought the community together for a competitive matchup.

Children ages 9 to 11 were placed on teams sponsored by local businesses, including Harrington’s Funeral Home, Seaboard Station, and Mabry’s Drug. The program gives participants an opportunity to build skills while representing community supporters.

In Friday’s game, Mabry’s Drug faced Seaboard Station in a spirited contest. Seaboard Station secured a 4-0 victory, but the focus remained on teamwork and development.

“I hope they take away teamwork and collaboration skills, decision-making abilities, and also communication skills,” said Hamlet Parks and Recreation Director Maurice McLaurin.

Youth recreation continues to grow as the recreation department provides sports options for kids. Baseball and softball are scheduled for this spring. Baseball registration is now closed, and sign ups for softball end on May 10. Late registration extends to May 18.

Community members interested in participating can register at Hamlet City Hall.
