ROCKINGHAM – The Raiders suffered an 18-6 loss at the hands of Scotland High School on Wednesday, continuing their losing streak against Scotland and bringing their overall record to 5-10.
Scotland applied the pressure early, hitting four home runs in the second inning. Scotland would carry this momentum throughout the game, scoring at least one home run in each inning after this. In the end, the Scots would secure their victory with five home runs in the seventh inning. The Raiders would try to slow them down by using four pitchers, but Scotland keep the pressure on regardless of who was pitching. Richmond would give up 21 hits and 18 runs, only 11 of them earned.
The Scots also applied the pressure defensively, only allowing the Raiders to get six hits out of the 28 times they were at-bat. The team would strike out 12 times, with many of them getting no hits.
Some stand-out players tried to keep Richmond in the fight, including Freshman Ava Clarke, who would score a home run and a double. Junior Emma Rusich was at-bat three times, managing to hit twice and adding an RBI. Sophomore Lexi Smith scored a double and an RBI, as well. Sophomore Sydney Barnes would manage to steal two bases and score a run.
Even after this effort, Scotland would prevail.
The Raiders will head up to Anson on April 20 to take on the Bearcats at 6 p.m.
Anson may be sitting at 4-13, but they’re coming in hot following their massive 17-4 blowout over Forest Hills on April 16.
