HAMLET – The City of Hamlet kicked off their first Main Street Movie Night this past Friday with a screening of Disney-Pixar’s “Soul,” bringing entertainment to Richmond County residents.
This year, the City of Hamlet plans to host four free movie nights, sponsored by Arco Photography and coordinated by Community Engagement Director Mechelle Preslar and Administrative Assistant, Toni Kubiak.
Show times will vary based on when the sun sets. Residents are welcome to bring their own snacks, but alcohol and coolers are not allowed. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. If you missed their screening of “Soul,” you could still make it to the rest of the scheduled movies: The Wizard of Oz (1939) on May 8, Little Rascals (1994) on Sept. 11 and Halloweentown (1998) on Oct. 9.
“Please do your own research regarding any movies we show, while we personally picked movies we believe to be family friendly; it is ultimately up to you to make that call. We are not responsible for anything you may disagree with in a movie we show,” event organizers said on social media.
“…growing up, I’ve always heard, oh, there’s nothing to do in Hamlet. There’s nothing to do in Rockingham, Richmond County, etc. But we were trying to make that possible on top of all the hardworking businesses,” said Kubiak. “So having events like these, somebody can say, oh, there is something to do. I can go out and get food at the food trucks. I can go out to some of the local downtown businesses while I’m out at the Pop-Up market. I can go out with friends and see a movie in the Main Street Park for free.”
On top of the Main Street Movie Nights, Visit Hamlet has brought back the Hamlet Pop-Up Market. If you missed the first date on April 11, there are additional dates scheduled for May 2, June 6, Aug. 1, Oct. 3, and Nov. 7. Vendor applications are currently available and should be submitted to the Hamlet Visitor’s Center or the Hamlet Senior Center.
For vendors wishing to submit an application, the rules and regulations have been updated for 2026, and applicants are encouraged to review the new information.
