RICHMOND COUNTY — Two men were arrested in unrelated incidents over the weekend in Richmond County, according to authorities.
On Sunday, March 14, at about 8:43 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver was identified as Sebastian Mateo Andreasen, 21, of Hamlet. During the stop, deputies reported smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
After Andreasen exited the vehicle, deputies searched it and found a Glock 20 10mm semi-automatic handgun and a clear bag containing suspected marijuana under the driver’s seat. The handgun had previously been reported stolen by the Hamlet Police Department.
Andreasen was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $5,500 secured bond. His court date is set for March 26.
In a separate incident earlier that weekend, deputies responded Saturday, March 14, at about 12:40 a.m. to a report of a breaking and entering in progress at a home on Mill Road in Rockingham.
When deputies arrived, they located a man lying in the yard who matched the description provided by the caller. Authorities said the man did not comply with commands to show his hands, which were underneath his body. When he stood up, he resisted and struggled with a deputy. A second deputy saw a handgun on the ground within his reach.
The suspect, Demitrius Akeem Little, 34, of Ellerbe, was subdued and handcuffed without injury.
Little was charged with two counts of resisting a public officer, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. He was given a $50,000 secured bond on the resisting and concealed weapon charges, but was held due to failure to comply with the required fingerprinting process. His court date is set for March 26.
