RICHMOND COUNTY — A Concord man was arrested in Richmond County for allegedly stealing from the Dollar General in Hamlet, located at the intersection of N.C. 177 and Spring Street, on Feb. 14.
According to records, the suspect, identified as Stephon De Jan Butler, 25, told the clerk that he had “people outside that will come in and shoot up the place.”
Butler was charged Feb. 19 with one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and was arrested Feb. 23 by the Hamlet Police Department. According to the warrant, Butler is being held without bond at the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court March 5.
In a separate case, a Richmond County man is accused of stealing garden center items from the Walmart in Rockingham on Feb. 23.
According to court records, Jacob Tray McKenzie, 29, of Rockingham, stole $2,890 worth of items. He was charged with one count of felony larceny. McKenzie was arrested Feb. 23 and is being held in the Richmond County Jail on a combined secured bond of $14,000. He is scheduled to appear in court March 3.
Records also show McKenzie has warrants in Moore County and Cumberland County for additional larcenies.
Last December, McKenzie allegedly stole a Dyson vacuum cleaner from the Target in Southern Pines and removed or destroyed the anti-theft device on Dec. 24. Six days later, on Dec. 30, he stole a pair of Nike Air Max LTD 3s from Rack Room Shoes in Aberdeen. In Moore County, he faces multiple charges, including felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny, possession of stolen goods or property and larceny by removing, destroying or deactivating a component of an inventory control device. He is scheduled to appear in court March 20.
In Cumberland County, McKenzie is accused of conspiring with another individual to steal five Milwaukee power tools, valued at $476.97, from the Home Depot in Fayetteville on Nov. 18. McKenzie was charged with misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor conspiracy and possession of stolen goods or property. He is scheduled to appear in court March 12.
In another case, a Rockingham man was arrested and charged with three counts of resisting an officer, misdemeanor larceny and one count of second-degree trespassing.
According to court records, Raymond Harvey Ingram, 59, stole Minute Maid fruit punch and a pack of sunflower seeds from Refuel Store No. 135 on Feb. 22. Ingram returned to the same store the following day and took a Mountain Dew, sunflower seeds and two Snickers bars. He is also accused of stealing dog food from Dollar General on Fayetteville Road.
According to the arrest warrant, when officials with the Rockingham Police Department were investigating the larcenies Feb. 24, Ingram unlawfully and willfully did resist a public officer by “running into the woodbine between Skipper St and Church St.”
Ingram was booked in the Richmond County Jail on a combined $25,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 5 on the larceny and trespassing charges and March 13 on the resisting charges.
