RICHMOND COUNTY — Delayed openings and extended remote learning have been announced for Tuesday as snow and ice continue to linger across Richmond County, as officials say road conditions remain unsafe in some areas.

Although the winter storm is gradually melting, hazardous conditions persist on many roadways throughout the county.

Richmond County Schools and Richmond Community College will remain closed Tuesday.

“After closely evaluating road conditions and in discussion with local emergency management officials, Richmond County Schools will continue to operate on a remote instructional day tomorrow, Tuesday, February 3, and an optional remote workday for staff,” read a statement issued by the district on social media.

The continued campus closure is due to remaining icy conditions.

“Many secondary roads remain covered with snow and ice, making travel unsafe for buses, student drivers, and families,” said Richmond County Schools.

RCS will continue to monitor weather conditions and share an update regarding plans for Wednesday no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday.

“Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue to keep our school community safe,” concluded the post.

Rockingham City Hall will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026. Sanitation services will operate on a modified schedule due to lingering snow and ice along streets and in yards. Monday and Thursday routes will be collected one time on Thursday, while Tuesday and Friday routes will be collected one time on Friday. There will be one garbage pickup this week.

“Please use caution while traveling,” the city of Rockingham said in a social media post. “All other city services will resume as weather conditions allow.”

Richmond County Government will operate on a delayed schedule Tuesday, with county offices opening at 11 a.m. The Transfer Station will operate regular hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., while all box sites will open from noon to 6 p.m.

The city of Hamlet will open at noon Tuesday, Feb. 3. The town of Dobbins Heights has postponed garbage pickup and will provide updates as road conditions improve. Ellerbe Town Hall will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, with garbage collection scheduled to run as normal.

Several events across the county have also been postponed due to weather conditions. NASCAR Organizational Testing at Rockingham Speedway has been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, and converted to a single-day test. The Richmond County Cole Auditorium has postponed Cirque-tacular: Shimmer, originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31.

“Additional details regarding the new date and time will be shared as soon as they become available,” read a social media post issued by the Cole Auditorium.
