RICHMOND COUNTY — Richmond County Schools will operate on a remote instructional day Monday, Feb. 2, as winter weather continues to affect the area, while local government offices across the county announced closures.
“Richmond County Schools will transition to a remote instructional day tomorrow, Monday, February 2nd for all students, and staff will have an optional remote workday,” the district said in a post on social media. “All buildings and offices will be closed.”
“Students should complete one day of remote work assigned by their teachers. We will continue to monitor conditions and will share an update regarding plans for Tuesday no later than 5:00 p.m. tomorrow,” the post continued.
All City of Hamlet administrative offices will be closed Monday, Feb. 2, the city announced in a post on social media.
“We encourage everyone to stay off the roads and avoid unnecessary travel. Please take care of yourself, your family, and your neighbors,” the statement read.
The post added that emergency and critical services will remain operational.
“While administrative offices are closed, emergency and critical services will continue operating to protect public safety and maintain essential operations. We ask that you keep our first responders, public works crews, and other critical employees in your thoughts as they remain on duty to serve our community. Additional updates will be shared as conditions change. Stay safe, stay warm, and look out for one another.”
All City of Rockingham offices will also be closed Monday, Feb. 2, due to winter weather conditions, the city said in a post on social media. Essential emergency services will remain operational.
Garbage collection will not run Monday. A decision regarding Tuesday’s garbage collection and the remainder of the week’s schedule will be shared by midday Monday.
“City crews began plowing roads at 7:00 a.m. and will continue by prioritizing critical routes first, followed by neighborhoods as conditions allow,” the city stated.
The city also expressed appreciation for personnel working during the weather conditions.
“We extend our sincere thanks to all public service personnel across agencies who continue working to keep our community safe during this inclement weather.”
The Town of Dobbins Heights announced that Town Hall and the Community Center/Park will be closed Monday, Feb. 2. Ellerbe Town Hall will also be closed, and there will be no garbage pickup. The regularly scheduled Feb. 2 town meeting has been rescheduled for Feb. 9. Richmond County Government offices buildings will be closed for business Monday, Feb. 2, due to inclement weather.
