ROCKINGHAM — A Rockingham man was arrested following an investigation into the possession of internet-based child sexual exploitation material, according to the Rockingham Police Department.
The investigation began after police received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
On Tuesday, Jan. 27, investigators with the Rockingham Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, served a search warrant at a residence on Farmstead Court.
As a result of the investigation, James Kevin West Jr., 26, was taken into custody.
West was charged with four counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. He was transported to the Richmond County Jail, where he was placed under a $250,000 secured bond.
According to officials, the case remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.
