RICHMOND COUNTY — Two men were arrested in separate incidents in Richmond County following vehicle chases and reported threats or damage, according to court records and a media release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
According to an arrest warrant, Cortez Dakota Sturdivant, 26, is accused of threatening to kill a woman while chasing her in a vehicle Tuesday, Jan. 20. The warrant states the victim was aware Sturdivant had a gun.
A deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Sturdivant on County Home Road while responding to the complaint, but he refused to stop. Court records state Sturdivant passed several vehicles around a curve marked with a double yellow line and exceeded the speed limit, reaching 80 mph in a 35 mph zone.
During the chase, Sturdivant allegedly damaged the rear driver-side window of a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with damage exceeding $200, according to court records.
Officials later found a Glock .40-caliber handgun in the driver-side door of Sturdivant’s vehicle, along with a half-ounce or less of marijuana, court records show.
Sturdivant was arrested and charged with fleeing to elude with a motor vehicle, aggressive driving, reckless driving to endanger, driving while license revoked, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, failure to heed lights and sirens, speeding, driving left of center, following too closely, injury to personal property and communicating threats.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a combined $115,000 secured bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2.
In a separate case, Solomon Garcia, 27, was arrested after driving into property and fleeing from deputies, according to court records.
Court records state that Saturday, Garcia drove into a 2019 Nissan Sentra and a 2015 Honda Accord, causing more than $200 in damage. He also allegedly damaged a woman’s house and another individual’s fence.
Garcia then led deputies on a low-speed chase, traveling about 30 mph in a 35 mph zone, before fleeing on foot and struggling with deputies, according to the release.
“When deputies began to place handcuffs on the suspect, he resisted and ran on foot,” the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said in the media release. “Deputies were able to restrain and eventually handcuff him.”
Garcia was charged with fleeing or eluding arrest with a motor vehicle; four counts of resisting a public officer; two counts of assault with a deadly weapon; and two counts each of injury to real property and injury to personal property.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $40,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 12.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
