RICHMOND COUNTY — A Jackson Springs man faces multiple charges across several counties following an impaired driving investigation and a multi-county vehicle pursuit, according to court records and a media release from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
Court records show that last Saturday, Daniel Shane Perkins, 47, was driving left of center on Hoffman Road when he was investigated for driving while impaired by a deputy with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office. During the stop, Perkins allegedly failed to comply with commands to exit his vehicle.
He was charged in Moore County with resisting a public officer, driving while impaired, driving left of center, reckless driving with wanton disregard and failing to heed a light or siren. Records show Perkins was issued a $3,500 secured bond and released the following day.
According to a media release, deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded Sunday, Jan. 18, at approximately 7:28 p.m. to a report of a possible impaired driver on I-73 under the bridge at Exit 25 in Ellerbe. Upon approaching the vehicle, a deputy observed the driver’s eyelids were nearly closed while the vehicle remained in drive.
The release states the deputy instructed the driver to put the vehicle in park, but instead the driver fled, prompting a brief pursuit. Because of unsafe speeds and adverse weather conditions, the pursuit was discontinued for public safety.
Later that evening, at approximately 8:24 p.m., deputies were notified that Montgomery County officers were pursuing the same vehicle after it re-entered Richmond County near Hoffman, according to the release.
Deputies later located the vehicle on Derby Road and continued following it onto McDonald Church Road. The pursuit ended when the suspect struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle, disabling it. Perkins was then taken into custody. No injuries were reported as a result of the collision, according to the release.
Perkins was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle in Richmond and Montgomery counties; felony assault with a deadly weapon in Richmond County; reckless driving with wanton disregard and speeding in Montgomery County; failure to heed a light or siren in Montgomery County; assault with a deadly weapon on a government official in Moore County; and resisting a public officer with the Candor Police Department.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail without bond.
Records show Perkins is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 28 in Moore County, Feb. 3 in Moore and Montgomery counties, and Feb. 5 in Moore and Richmond counties.
In a separate case, an East Rockingham woman is facing charges following alleged thefts from Walmart in Rockingham.
According to an arrest warrant, Cornish Ayanna Johnson is accused of stealing KitchenAid mixers, Lego sets, men’s clothing, gift bags, gift paper and other merchandise valued at $1,126.45 on Nov. 15, 2025. Court records state Johnson is accused of removing anti-theft devices from the mixers.
Johnson was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 21, and booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 29.
According to a magistrate’s order, Johnson is also accused of stealing merchandise from the Walmart in Aberdeen on Dec. 11, 2025, including a KitchenAid mixer, Lego sets, a scooter, a portable heater and a portable microphone, with a total reported value of $1,149.63.
Johnson faces pending charges of possession of stolen goods or property, larceny by removing, destroying or deactivating an anti-theft device, felony larceny, second-degree trespassing, possession of a fictitious or altered title, registration card or tag, driving while license revoked and simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
