HAMLET — The city of Hamlet has lifted a precautionary boil water advisory, effective immediately, with testing confirming the system remained safe throughout the incident.
According to a press release, Public Works was notified of a water line issue at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Crews exposed the line by 6 p.m. and worked under system pressure in an effort to complete repairs without interruption.
The release continued, “At approximately midnight, the decision was made to temporarily isolate the system by closing tank valves to safely reduce pressure to complete the repair. The damaged line was successfully repaired at approximately 12:45 a.m., and tank valves were reopened between 12:45 and 1:00 a.m.”
“System pressure never dropped below 59 psi at any point during the incident. The boil water notice was issued purely as a precautionary public health measure and was maintained while normal lab testing was completed and all results were clear,” read the release.
Water service has been fully restored, and the system is operating normally.
“We took a precautionary approach out of an abundance of caution, and normal lab testing confirmed the system remained safe throughout the repair,” said City Manager John Terziu. “Public health and safety will always guide our decisions.”
