Richmond County MLK Celebration events set

RICHMOND COUNTY — The Richmond County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Foundation will host four days of events centered on the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The weekend begins with the MLK Gala, scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Leak Street Event Center. Attire for the event is semi-formal, and it is open to those ages 21 and older. Admission is $15. For more information, contact Bruce Stanback at 910-331-4246.

A prayer breakfast is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital–Richmond. For more information, contact the Rev. Charles Bethea at 910-273-7090.

An MLK Day of Service will follow at noon, bringing together local organizations including the Ellerbe Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Hamlet Soup Kitchen, and Faith Assembly Pantry and Soup Kitchen. For more information, contact the Rev. Johnny Harris at 910-331-7504.

The events conclude Monday with the MLK Luncheon at the Waymon Chapel Faith Center, located at 1923 Osbourne Road. The luncheon begins at noon, with admission set at $15.
