A Rockingham man was arrested Dec. 31 after allegedly threatening to physically injure a woman and preventing her from leaving.
According to the arrest warrant, Joseph Paul Reeves Jr., 48, told the victim that he was going “to kill her while he had her cornered in the bedroom.”
The arrest warrant continued, “The threat was made in a manner and under circumstances which would cause a reasonable person to believe that the threat was likely to be carried out and the person threatened believed that the threat would be carried out.”
Reeves was charged with a misdemeanor count of communicating threats and a felony count of false imprisonment. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail without bond.
Court records show Reeves has previously been charged with second-degree trespassing, damage to personal property and driving while impaired in both Richmond and Scotland counties.
Reeves is scheduled to make his first court appearance Jan. 5.
