LAURINBURG — Live Like Madison’s 6th Annual “Playing FORE a Cure” Golf Tournament & Auction was held October 17–18 at Scotch Meadows Country Club, bringing together 264 golfers for two incredible days of competition, camaraderie and community support.
“Thanks to the continued generosity and support of our sponsors, partners and community, we had two amazing days of Living Like Madison,” said Maggie Wells, Live Like Madison board member and golf tournament chairperson. “Sunshine, smiles, and inspiring energy — all coming together to make a difference.”
Each day served as its own tournament, with four-person teams competing in a captain’s choice format. Highlights included a $2,500 putting qualifier, closest-to-the-pin prizes on all par threes, and a long drive contest. Players also had the chance to participate in hole-in-one contests and fire their par five tee shots from an AR-15 golf gun, a crowd favorite.
To keep things fresh, the committee added a new feature this year — the Golf Ball Drop, made possible through sponsors and the City of Laurinburg Fire Department, which dropped 300 numbered golf balls from their ladder truck following play each day. The ball landing closest to the pin won: a Turtle Box Gen 3 Bluetooth Speaker and second closest won $100 cash.

“I am thrilled to announce that we raised over $100,000 — our highest total yet — which will go directly toward pediatric cancer research,” said Laura Fedak, President of Live Like Madison and Madison’s mom. “This annual golf tournament is our primary fundraiser to ensure critical research trials are funded. Without the support of our sponsors, volunteers, and players, we simply could not do what we do.”
During her remarks at the event, Fedak reflected on how much the tournament has grown and the powerful reason behind it all.
“When we first decided to host a golf tournament, we just wanted to raise money — we had no idea what we were doing,” she shared. “What has transpired over the past six years has been nothing short of amazing. We’ve gone from hoping to fill 18 teams to having a full field of golfers on both days. While that makes me proud, it also hurts, because that’s six years that I haven’t held my little girl. But this is why we are all here — to fight for other children and families so that no one else has to experience this kind of loss.”
Fedak also expressed her gratitude to the community for keeping Madison’s legacy alive.
“If Madison is forgotten, it would be like losing her all over again,” she said. “So thank you for remembering her and for keeping her spirit alive. From this momma who misses her little girl more and more every day — thank you.”
The Live Like Madison Golf Committee is already planning for Round 7. Organizers invite golfers and sponsors alike to join them for Playing FORE a Cure 2026—two unforgettable days of golf, entertainment, fellowship, and friendly competition, all in support of children battling cancer and their families.

Live Like Madison, Inc. (LLM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to funding pediatric cancer research, supporting children and families impacted by the disease, and building community awareness through education and events.
