DOBBINS HEIGHTS — A teenager died last Saturday after a shooting in the Dobbins Heights community.
The Richmond County Emergency Communications Center received calls reporting gunfire on Horseshoe Drive, followed by a truck crashing into a house, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.
Deputies with the Richmond County Patrol Division and members of Hamlet Fire and EMS found the victim inside the truck, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, Richmond Campus, where he later died.
Investigators quickly identified another teenager as the suspected shooter. He was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder, with additional charges expected. Because both the victim and suspect are juveniles, their names are not being released. The suspect was placed in a secure juvenile facility without bond.
The Hamlet Police Department, Rockingham Police Department, and an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the investigation.
