ROCKINGHAM — United Way of Richmond County will host its 16th annual Days of Caring event Sept. 10-13 and Sept. 19, bringing together nearly 250 volunteers to support local nonprofit organizations.
The community initiative connects volunteers and businesses with nonprofits to complete 15 hands-on projects that address needs across the county. Projects will take place between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. during the week.
Employee teams and community volunteers will take on projects aimed at strengthening neighborhoods and supporting agencies that work year-round to improve lives.
“It takes everyone coming together to make a community stronger and to give hope to those in need. Days of Caring is about more than just volunteering — it’s about building connections, creating understanding, and showing compassion in action,” said Michelle Parrish, executive director of United Way of Richmond County. “When people from all walks of life roll up their sleeves and work side by side, real change happens. Volunteers don’t just make a difference for a day — they help create an impact that continues to touch lives long after the projects are complete.”
Days of Caring has become a tradition for many Richmond County companies and organizations. This year’s projects include building homes, organizing, cleaning, packing food bags, delivering meals and beautifying nonprofit sites.
For those unable to leave the workplace, additional opportunities include hosting a Stock-Up Food Drive for local pantries, organizing a Baby Shower to benefit single parents and families, joining the Rake A Difference initiative to assist veterans and community members with limitations, or adopting a highway with the N.C. Department of Transportation.
