ROCKINGHAM — Retro Spa & Nails welcomed guests to its first “Galentine’s” Day event on Saturday, offering a space to celebrate friendship and community.

The event featured a photo booth by Sheila’s Photography, a charm bracelet-making station, a trucker hat station by Ray and Rae Designs, a T-shirt bar, nonalcoholic drinks by Cruzin’ For A Boozin’, cookies and food trucks including Taco Factory, Mini’s On The Go and Travelin’ Tom’s Coffee.

“We decided to open up the shop today to give everybody a one-stop-shop experience before the actual Valentine holiday,” said Kelli Rogers Barbery, owner of Retro Spa & Nails.

Barbery said the idea for the event came from conversations with her clients. “Being a nail tech here, I want to be the one-stop shop for people in Richmond County. There’s nowhere else that I’ve seen that has done an event like this, and when clients sit down in my chair, they tell me the things they’re interested in, and I just kinda go with it and put it together.”

She hopes the business remains a welcoming space for both clients and staff. “I started at the bottom of the bucket, and now I own my salon. I just want [Retro Spa & Nails] to be a place where you can come and be yourself and watch people grow.”

As the first event of its kind for the business, the impressive turnout may signal the start of a new tradition in Richmond County.
