ROCKINGHAM — Patriotism will be on display throughout Rockingham on Saturday, Nov. 6 in honor of Veterans Day.

The Annual VFW Post 4203 Auxiliary Parade will return to the streets for a day of celebration in anticipation of Veterans Day on Nov. 11. All of the floats will directly honor veterans.

“I just hope a lot of people come and watch the parade,” Robin Roberts, President of the VFW Auxiliary. said. “Enjoy the event with everything happening downtown.”

Roberts said they’ve gotten a lot of feedback from the community so far for float ideas. Flags will be handed out for everyone to wave.

Before the parade, there will be a Veteran’s Day Observance ceremony at VFW Post 4203 at 11:00 a.m. Carlton Hawkins, Commander of American Legion Post 147, said he will be welcoming the community at the event for an hour full of “patriotic speech.”

Major Darryl Kelly, Retired US Army, will be the featured speaker of the event. There will be a presentation of wreaths from various veterans organizations.

A meal will be served at the Observance ceremony. Afterward, guests will head over to join or watch the parade.

The parade lineup will start at 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Department of Social Services. It will start at 2:30 p.m.

There will be 30 motorcycles from the Independent Riders of Richmond County and 6-8 motorcycles from the Southern Boyz MC in the parade. Other trailers include the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington Cemetery, AMVETS – Vietnam War and Korean War Veterans, along with many other vehicles and participants for the festivities.
