ROCKINGHAM — A suspect wanted in connection to a shooting at the U.S. 220 flea market that occurred on Saturday, June 5, turned himself in at the Richmond County Magistrates Office.
Willis Tyquil Riggins, 24, of Bruce Street in Hamlet, was sought by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
Riggins was processed and released on a $30,000 secure bond. His court date is set for July 1, 2021.
The Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots fired at approximately 10:26 a.m. Saturday. While on the way to the scene, deputies were informed that someone had been “shot at” and was “hiding in a wooded area waiting on law enforcement,” according to a press release.
No one was injured in the shooting. After interviewing the individual who was apparently the target of the shooting, as well as other witnesses, investigators obtained warrants for the arrest of Riggins.
The investigation is ongoing.
