HAMLET — Enviva supported Richmond County’s Backpack Pals Program with a recent $2,500 donation at its Hamlet facility.
The program is nationally recognized, created to ensure needy students have food to eat over the weekend. The Richmond County program is an all-volunteer organization that seeks to serve close to 700 students from kindergarten through high school each week.
Each Friday, students pick up a bag that includes 10-12 food items.
Plant Manager Paul Pereira and Human Capital Manager Ricardo Rivers presented the sponsorship to Church of God Prophecy Pastor Steve Crews, who is the volunteer director of Backpack Pals, and Michelle Parrish, who is the Executive Director at United Way of Richmond County.
The program, which is administered through Helping Hands of Hamlet, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, serves all schools in Richmond County. Enviva has been a Richmond County Backpack sponsor since construction first started at its Hamlet facility.
