MONTHLY BREAKFAST will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. at Hamlet First United Methodist Church. Each $5 plates serves two meats, eggs, grits, biscuit and gravy, juice and coffee. Take-outs are available.

RICHMOND COUNTY RETIRED SCHOOL PERSONNEL will meet at noon at Sandhills Regional Medical Center in Hamlet. Guest speakers will be Joan Bass, president of North Carolina Retired School Personnel and Pat Randall, Region 6A Legislative Chairperson. All Richmond County school personnel are welcome to attend.

14TH ANNUAL CITY OF ROCKINGHAM TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY will begin at 7 p.m. at Cole Plaza next to City Hall in downtown Rockingham. Don Greene’s former chorus students will be singing Christmas carols. Everyone is invited.

COLUMBIA CITY BALLET PRESENTS THE NUTCRACKER AT COLE beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Cole Auditorium on the campus of Richmond Community College. DeWitt season ticket holders use their tickets for entry but single single show tickets are available for $35 each. ACOUSTIC COFFEE CHRISTMAS EDITION will take place at 7 p.m. at Nectar Coffee Shop inside the Hive Recreation Center, 1210 Rockingham Road, Rockingham. Admission is free with the donation of baby wipes or diapers for newborns to size 4 to benefit the Pee Dee Pregnancy Resource Center.

COUNTRY BREAKFAST will be held from 7 to 10 a.m. at Spring Hill Wesleyan Church, located off N.C. 38 on Spring Hill Church Road in Hamlet. Cost is $6 for all-you-can-eat. Carry-out plates also available. Funds raised will go for future projects, missions and those in need.

ELLERBE HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. in downtown Ellerbe. There will be a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, live Christmas music and a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Enjoy refreshments and register for door prizes.

MASONIC MEETING with a meal at 6:15 p.m. and meeting at 7:30 p.m. will take place at the Hamlet Masonic Lodge No. 532, 307 Main Street.

December 10

COMMUNITY AWARENESS WORKSHOP will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Bass Temple United Church of God, 157 Louis Breeden Blvd., Hamlet. There will be vendors and speakers giving information on health issues and other community resources. This workshop is open to the public.

HITCHCOCK CREEK NIGHT OF LIGHTS will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Steele Street access point. Each space on the walking trail is $50. Best space voted by the community will win a $500 gift basket. Drinks, hot cocoa and snacks will be available for $1 each. The event is free to the public, but visitors are asked to bring a canned food or make a donation in the gift box to help local families in need. Call Life’s Memories Outdoors at 910-334-2888 to pick a space on the walking trail.

December 12

SEASON EXTENSION WITH HIGH AND LOW TUNNEL TRAINING will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sandhills Research Station, 2148 Windblow Road, Jackson Springs. Registration fee is $20. Register online at http://go.ncsu.edu/season-extension-12-12-reg by Dec. 8.

THE HAMLET SENIOR CENTER will be hosting a toy drive for Toys for Tots until Dec. 15. New, unwrapped toys to support underprivileged children of Richmond County can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday in the boxes located at the Hamlet Senior Center, 102 Veterans Drive, and Hamlet City Hall, 201 Main Street.

December 17

RICHMOND COUNTY PARTNERSHIP FOR CHILDREN will present the inaugural Christmas run at Hinson Lake. The Rudolph Run/Walk 5K for ages 15 and up will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. for a fee of $25 and the Santa Shuffle 1K for ages 1-14 will begin with registration at 9:30 a.m. for a fee of $15. Pre-register beginning Oct. 15 at Richmond County Partnership for Children, 315 S. Lawrence St., Rockingham. Registration fee will include a T-shirt and pre-registration guarantees a T-shirt. There will be T-shirts available on the day of the event, however, sizes and quantity will be limited.
