Thank God for teacher work days.

Allowing teachers and students to catch up on their assignments is a beautiful relief. It gives us extra time to get back to the real world.

The chores that we have not finished or the essay we haven’t completed. Teachers are able to catch up on assignments.

Overall it is a very relaxing day, as well. Educators are given a break from their main forms of stress, while kids are given extra hours of sleep. It’s a win-win trade.

It makes me wonder how successful our school year would be if we played around with the schedule(s) each year. What would give education the best result? Shorter school days that extend into a shorter summer? Digital schooling? Personalized tutoring?

When we encounter the question of when school should begin, we must also consider when it should end. Is it best to have six hours of instructional time or seven? When do you lose the attention of students and how do you combat this?

Which then leads into another topic — how to dismiss school for less traffic and safer roads. This is the tricky question. It is also one of the main problems I see with our own county’s scheduling. This above all else is what causes my schooling transportation to last 50 minutes longer every day.

I have one sibling attending Richmond Senior.
