Discovery Place Kids-Rockingham to celebrate 3rd birthday Saturday

February 20

MISSION BREAKFAST will be from 6:30 to 10 a.m. at Pee Dee United Methodist Church, U.S. 220, Rockingham. Proceeds will go toward future mission projects.

INDOOR CHURCH YARD SALE will take place from 7 a.m. to noon at Friendship Baptist Church, 367 N.C. 177, Hamlet.

CONCEALED CARRY CLASS will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 615 Cheraw Road, Hamlet. This nine-hour course will equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to operate and carry their handgun concealed. The class is presented in the classroom and on the range. Students must be at least 21 and bring a handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition. The cost of the class is $80, and advance registration and deposit is required. After completing the class successfully, students will receive a certificate that allows them to apply with the state for their concealed carry permit. HAMLET AGLOW LIGHTHOUSE will have its monthly breakfast from 9 to 10 a.m. and a meeting at 10 a.m. at Pat’s Kitchen, 1240 E. Broad Ave., Rockingham.

DISCOVERY PLACE KIDS-ROCKINGHAM will celebrate its annual birthday bash from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and guests can enjoy the gift of free admission for a day of play and birthday party fun for DPK’s third birthday. Join the creative play professionals for interactive fun all throughout the day with activities like the science show, party crafts, story time, glow-in-the-dark art during the Glow Celebration and a special Big Fun birthday dance party. Members of DPK will also get to enjoy an exclusive birthday breakfast at 9 a.m. before the museum opens to the public.

THE MINERAL SPRINGS IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL will sponsor an afterschool program “Soaring to Higher Heights” from 3 to 5 p.m. Feb. 22 to May 19 Mondays through Thursdays at the Neighborhood Service Center, 112 Railroad St., Ellerbe. CONNECTIONS FAMILY SUPPORT AND COMMUNITY COLLABORATION PROGRAM will host a guest speaker from the State Bureau of Investigation from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 410 E. Washington St., Rockingham. A member of the SBI’s Clandestine Laboratory Response Unit will be speaking on the topic of methamphetamine in Richmond County. PEE DEE ARTIST GUILD will take a day trip to Weatherspoon Museum in Greensboro to see the exhibit “Pan-American Modernism and DeKooning in Company.” The group will meet at 9 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham to drive to Greensboro and will return by 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided at the café in the museum. The show and sale sponsored by the Pee Dee Artist Guild will be in conjunction with the Richmond County Historical Society, featuring hand-decorated antique tiles. The proceeds of the sale will benefit the historical society. Artists interested in painting on the tiles for the show may pick up tiles between 10 a.m. and noon on Feb. 5 or between 2 and 4 p.m. on Feb. 19 at the Leak-Wall House.
