Julia Evans Cottingham, 78, of Rockingham, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Lilly Bennett Nursing Center in Wadesboro.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Corey Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Eastside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at her sister Barbara’s home.
Julia was born in Richmond County on March 7, 1934, a daughter of the late James M. and Vera Belle Simmons Evans. She graduated from Rohanen High School and attended Richmond Community College as well as Sandhills Community College. She was a legal secretary for a law office. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack. W. Cottingham, and one son, Jamie E. Cottingham.
She is survived by a son, Jack W. “Jackie” Cottingham Jr.; three sisters, Louise Carbary, Barbara Watkins, and Vickie Evans all of Rockingham; and five grandchildren.
