Staff Report

The Rockingham Police Department is once again sponsoring the Junior Police Academy from July 22 to July 26. Classes will be held daily from approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch provided.

According to Rockingham Police, this program motivates young people to be outstanding citizens through law enforcement education. The program targets middle school and high school students ages 11 – 17. The program allows students with an interest in the field of law enforcement to get an insider’s view of various daily tasks that occur during a police officer’s tour of duty.

Some of the activities scheduled include learning patrol techniques and traffic investigations, running trail/article searches with K-9 officers, understanding case preparation, identifying drugs/ paraphernalia, meeting the airport raid team — lunch with helicopter crew, visiting the 911 Center, and seeing a House Entry/Swat.

Applications can be picked up at the Rockingham Police Department located at 311 E. Franklin St. or can be filled out online at gorockinghampd.com.
