Mr. Cyrus Howard Baucom died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Quail Haven Inn Pinehurst, after a period of four years of declining health.

Mr. Baucom is survived by his wife, Nancy Milham Baucom; their two daughters, Cynthia Holloway (husband David) and Nancy Porter (husband Kevin); and two grandchildren Sarah Porter and Mark Porter.

Mr. Baucom was a retired teacher who taught at Hoffman Elementary and Richmond Sr. High School.

During World War II, Mr. Baucom was an engineer and a gunner on a B-17 ( 379th Bombardment Group) which was shot down over Germany. While he was a prisoner of war, he helped fellow prisoners by taking food to the sick and dying.

After World War II, Mr. Baucom earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic and practiced in Winston- Salem.

Later he was the Director of Social Service in Richmond County and Polk County.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, April 23, 2012, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Hamlet with the Very Reverend Timothy E. Kimbrough Dean and Rector of Christ Church Cathedral Nashville, TN officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the All Saints Parish House. Burial will follow the service at Richmond Memorial Park.
