HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina State University senior has died after a crash near Holly Springs that left two others in critical condition.

News outlets report 22-year-old Cheyanne Nicole Hass, of Murphy, was killed early Sunday morning when she was ejected during the single-vehicle crash. She was sitting in the backseat and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Michael D. Baker says 21-year-old James Randall Thomas of Raleigh, also a student at N.C. State, was driving and lost control of the car. The car hit a tree and overturned. Thomas and passenger 21-year-old Mason Andrew Lanier, of West Panorama, Illinois, were in critical condition at Wake Medical Center.

N.C. State students held a vigil for Hass on Sunday night.

Baker says investigators are consulting with prosecutors on possible charges.
