Body of teen missing after Raleigh wreck found near pond

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Wake County sheriff’s deputies say the body of a teen missing after a wreck has been found near a pond.

Local media outlets reported that the body of 17-year-old Lauren Maria Jenkins was found Sunday by a pond in some woods near the scene of a wreck Friday night.

Authorities say Jenkins failed to yield as she tried to make a left turn and pulled in front of another car.

Sheriff’s spokesman John Jones did not say whether investigators suspect foul play. Jones says the North Carolina Highway Patrol asked deputies to help search and a dog picked up the scent about the same time a neighbor found the body.

Jones said Jenkins’ body will sent to the state medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
