SHELBY, N.C. (AP) — A Shelby police officer has been shot while serving a warrant.

Local media outlets report that Officer Tim Brackeen was shot and wounded at around 12:20 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to the hospital, and police say his condition is critical.

Authorities are still investigating the shooting and haven’t released other details. The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting local police with their investigation.

Police say Brackeen is a 12-year department veteran and is currently assigned as a K9 officer. He was named officer of the year in 2012.
