Highway Patrol says pedestrian killed trying to cross I-40

GARNER, N.C. (AP) — The N.C. Highway Patrol says a Cumberland County man is dead after he was hit by a car while trying to cross Interstate 40 near Garner in Wake County.

A statement from the patrol says 42-year-old Jonathan Ray Brewster was attempting to cross the interstate Friday night when he was struck by a car in the westbound lanes. Authorities say the driver of the car stayed at the scene until troopers arrived. The accident occurred near exit 306.

The patrol says no charges are expected in the case.
