HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a North Carolina man overdosed on heroin behind the wheel while his one-year-old child was in the car.

News agencies report High Point police say 21-year-old Cameron Carlson of Franklinville faces several charges including possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while impaired and misdemeanor child abuse after he was found unconscious at an intersection Saturday.

Police say Carlson’s son was found in the back seat of the vehicle strapped in his car seat.

Responding emergency crews administered the life-saving opioid overdose-reversing drug treatment naloxone, known by the brand name Narcan.

Officials say they also found needles and swabs inside the vehicle.

It’s unclear if Carlson has an attorney.
