RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Two 19-year-old Raleigh teenagers are accused of drowning a dog in a swimming pool.

Local media outlets report Monday that Khai Daugherty and Annaliese Petersen are charged with felony animal cruelty.

Police say an animal control officer was called to an apartment complex Friday about a dead dog. Investigators determined the black Labrador-mixed breed had been beaten and then drowned in the pool Thursday night.

Petersen denies hurting the dog, named Eclipse.

She told WTVD (http://abc11.tv/2bc8CC7 ) she tried to perform CPR after Daugherty brought the dog to her at the pool and said it was dead. She says Daugherty hit Eclipse in the chest to try to get the dog to breathe.
