CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A South American woman visiting the United States for a month has been killed in a wreck in Charlotte, North Carolina, and a woman with two drunken driving convictions has been charged.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police told local news outlets that 79-year-old Cecelia Buitrago de Gonzalez of Bogota, Colombia, died when the vehicle she was in was hit by a car that crossed a grass median early Saturday.

Twenty-three-year-old Kelly Ann Conklin of Clover, South Carolina, is charged with driving while intoxicated, felony death by motor vehicle, felony serious injury be vehicle, reckless driving and marijuana possession.

Conklin had drunken driving convictions in Mecklenburg County and York County, South Carolina, in 2014. It was not clear if she has an attorney on the new charges.

Three of the victim’s family members were hurt.
