CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Police in Charlotte have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of one woman and the wounding of another.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police spokeswoman Jessica Wallin said in a statement that 23-year-old Jalen Marquise Anderson was charged Monday with murder, attempted murder and firing a gun into occupied property.

Investigators said their initial information shows the shooting was not random and was not the result of road rage. Detectives think Anderson had a relationship with both women.

The two women were shot around 3 a.m. Monday. Police investigating a wreck in southeastern Charlotte found a vehicle with the two women inside.

The driver, 20-year-old Mary Elaine Tarr died at the scene. The other woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her name has not been released.
