LENOIR, N.C. (AP) — Police in Lenoir say one man was shot and killed and two people are in custody after a shooting at a Walmart.

Lenoir Police Chief Scott Brown told a news conference on Tuesday that 32-year-old Carl Marcus Nivins died after exchanging gunfire with police officers.

Brown said officers responded to a report of suspicious activity by Walmart employees. The chief said Nivins was described as the individual involved and is believed to have fired at least one shot.

Police haven’t released the names of the two people being held in custody or why they are being held.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation into the shooting.
