Debates for 3 North Carolina Council of State positions set

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Candidates for some down-ballot North Carolina Council of State positions will get statewide audiences this fall thanks to televised debates in which they’ve agreed to participate.

The North Carolina Institute of Political Leadership said Tuesday debates will be held on three successive weeks in September — one each for lieutenant governor, attorney general and state treasurer.

Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Forest and Democrat Linda Coleman will debate Sept. 13 in Wilson. Democrat Josh Stein and Republican Buck Newton will debate Sept. 20 in Asheboro for attorney general. The debate on Sept. 27 in Statesville will feature Republican Dale Folwell and Democrat Dan Blue III for treasurer.

Each debate will be aired the following night on a channel of the University of North Carolina television network.
