CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a 52-year-old man has been charged in a fatal shooting in east Charlotte.

Media outlets report Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say Gary Lavard Austin was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Donnelle Quinton McDonald early Saturday.

Police say McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Austin and McDonald are believed to be family members and were involved in an altercation that led to the shooting.

It isn’t immediately clear if Austin has an attorney.
