WEDDINGTON, N.C. (AP) — Officials have identified a former Union County prosecutor as the person found dead in a Weddington house fire.

Union County sheriff’s deputies tell news outlets that the medical examiner’s office named 38-year-old Anne Taylor Reeves as the victim in Monday afternoon’s deadly blaze.

The cause of death is still undetermined, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials say Reeves’ remains were found in a vehicle in the basement garage, where they believe the fire started.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Tony Underwood says authorities found flammable liquids in the garage that could have been responsible for popping sounds neighbors heard.

Reeves spent four years working for District Attorney Trey Robison before leaving the office last summer.

Underwood says Reeves was the only person at home when the fire occurred.
