STANLEY, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina woman and her ex-husband have been charged in the near-fatal beating of an amputee whose prosthetic leg was stolen.

Gaston County Police Capt. Curtis Rosselle tells media outlets that 32-year-old Holly Dawn Mesker of Stanley and 43-year-old Patrick Wayne Christopher of Newton were both arrested on first-degree attempted murder, burglary and other charges.

Police say Mesker conspired with Christopher in trying to kill Aaron Sanders Thursday at his home near Stanley after Mesker and Sanders got into an argument.

Sanders says he was tied up and beaten with a stun gun-like device, a baseball bat and a machete.

The suspects also stole cash and the victim’s car.

Police say a third person is also being held on related charges.

It isn’t clear if Mesker and Christopher have attorneys.
