CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Forecasters say slow moving thunderstorms could bring up to 5 inches of rain to parts of the North Carolina mountains, foothills and Piedmont.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch until Monday morning for the southern mountains east to Charlotte.

Forecasters expect slow-moving thunderstorms with heavy rain to form Sunday and move slowly. They say some areas might get more than one storm.

The weather service says 1-inch to 3-inch totals will happen in some places, with up to 5 inches of rain possible in a few isolated areas.

Slow moving storms dumps 7 inches of rain in less than 12 hours last week in Statesville, causing flooding.
