RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after they say a Raleigh gun shop employee fired at two suspects accused of trying to rob the business before fleeing.

Local news outlets report the Wake County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened Tuesday afternoon at the privately-owned Jim’s Gun Shop.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison says the employee and one customer in the store noticed the suspects approaching with masks on and tried to lock the shop’s door before the suspects pushed their way in.

Harrison says a struggle ensued and the employee fired at the suspects, who ran off before fleeing in a vehicle.

Deputies are not sure if either suspect was shot. The search for the suspects continues.

Authorities haven’t released a description of the suspects, who they say should be considered armed and dangerous.
