CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The former headmaster at a private school in suburban Charlotte has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $9 million and will have to repay the money he used for a million-dollar lake house, seats at Carolina Panthers games and luxury vehicles.
Wayne Parker Jr. pleaded guilty Thursday to wire fraud and will forfeit $9.4 million. The 59-year-old is the former headmaster of Southlake Christian Academy in Huntersville.
The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/2ae6iew) that under a plea agreement, federal prosecutors want Parker to spend between seven and nine years in prison.
Federal officials say Parker stole money that parents donated to the school in memory of their dead child and forced employees to take a 5 percent pay cut to pay for building a 7,000-square-foot lake house.
